For those first responders with an entrepreneurial heart, desperately trying to find time on the side to build an online business, it’s all about the SEO optimization, baby. As you probably already know, Search Engine Optimization (or SEO) is the process by which you get your website to rank high, first page preferably, in search engine results. While Google is the 800 lb gorilla, don’t forget that engines like MSN and Yahoo are major players also, and deliver a not insignificant amount of traffic to internet marketers.
The first thing you need to know about SEO optimization is that everything you learn one day can change the next, especially with Google, who uses famously secretive formulas to rank websites, and can make major changes in parameters on a whim – except it’s not really a whim. The brains and suits at the company are all about one thing: delivering superior search results to Internet surfers. Anything they can do to further that end is fair game.
One of their main goals is to weed out the crap websites and deliver good, solid content to searchers. Keep that in mind. With good content, you can’t go wrong. Often internet marketers get so caught up in keyword density, phrases, and such that they forget the one thing that makes their website stand out above the rest. Good content!
Not that you shouldn’t pay attention to prevailing SEO optimization techniques but don’t lose sight of the fact that your eventual customers will be humans and, as such, they will love you for an awesome, dripping-with-content website. And don’t doubt for moment that, as much as possible, Google will reward the content website over the blatant keyword stuffed sales pitch.
