Federal Firefighters Can Retire at 57

firefighters

firefightersBack in 2001, President Bush signed a law raising the age of retirement for firefighters from 55 to 57 years of age. That might not seem like a big deal to the outsider but to those in the occupation, the previous age effectively eliminated the chance of being hired on a full time basis by the Forest Service or Interior Department past the age of 35, which frustrated many long-time temporary firefighters pursuing permanent hire status. The department figured that since 20 years of full-time service was required for retirement, it made no sense to hire someone who could never receive retirement benefits.

Too bad the powers that be aren’t promoting the conservative, highly profitable income property investment approach taught by Jason Hartman. If they did, aging firefighters could supercharge their retirement funds via real estate holdings and wouldn’t need 20 years to do it.

No matter their age, federal firefighters would do well to investigate the possibilities of income property investing. It vastly outperforms the traditional first responder retirement fund mix of stocks, bonds, and mutual funds, which are lucky to keep up with our estimated real inflation rate of about 10%. You see what that means? Following the usual investment method will almost guarantee a decline in standard of living at retirement. The trick is to figure out a way to move ahead of inflation. That’s what we’ve done at JasonHartman.com with an approach to real estate investing that actually thrives from inflation.

Returns of 20% to 30% annually are not unusual, numbers which should catch the attention of any public service worker or first responder interested in reaching the land of financial freedom.
