The Most Important Part of Your Firefighter Career

firefighter careerIf you’ve set your sights on a firefighter career, the last thing on your mind is likely to be retirement. You have some sort of vague idea in mind that, of course, there will be a retirement and, since you’re putting your life on the line daily for the benefit of others, it should be a comfortable pension – not rich – but comfortable. Surely that’s a small price for the public to reward in return for your 20, 30, or even 40 years of service.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the time to begin realizing that a firefighter career doesn’t guarantee the kind of retirement it used to is now, in the beginning. For various reasons, which we chronicle frequently at this website, the world has changed. Fund mismanagement, the dwindling number of decent stocks to invest in, and the ever-shrinking value of the dollar have conspired to make us wonder if there will even be an entity recognizable as “retirement” to future first responders.

But it’s not all bad news. There is a way out, a way which requires you to educate yourself on alternative investment strategies and, more importantly, take action to implement them. The good news is that, if you do, your Golden Years could find you with more wealth and financial independence that a traditional firefighter retirement could ever hope to provide.

Interested? You should be. We are currently in the studio recording the first episodes of The Heroic Investing Show, in which we’ll describe exactly what kind of investing those considering the possibility of a firefighter career should be researching. Here’s a hint: income property. Actually that’s not a hint. It’s the whole deal. One main difference between income properties and stocks is advertising. One is a superior investment and one has better advertising. We’ll let you figure out which is which.
